Most Jaén Municipalities See Income Rise, But Disparity Persists

The Tax Agency has released gross average income data for municipalities corresponding to 2023, indicating a generalized improvement in purchasing power across the province of Jaén, though failing to close the gap between the most prosperous and disadvantaged localities.

The latest reports from the Tax Agency, published in October 2025 and pertaining to the 2023 fiscal year, provide a detailed overview of the economic situation in the province of Jaén. These figures point to an overall improvement in purchasing power, with an increase of 785 euros in the average gross income compared to 2022 in municipalities with over a thousand inhabitants. However, this positive trend does not necessarily imply an equitable distribution of wealth.
At the top of the gross average income ranking, the usual localities maintain their positions. La Guardia de Jaén leads with 31,123 euros, followed by the capital, Jaén, with 28,947 euros. At some distance, but with notable figures, are Úbeda (25,592 euros) and Linares (24,895 euros), two of the province's main urban centers.
The group of municipalities with higher incomes also includes Martos (23,798 euros), which saw an increase of over 1,000 euros, and Baeza (23,708 euros), with an absolute growth of 1,253 euros. Other localities such as La Carolina (22,741 euros), Mengíbar (22,421 euros), and Torredonjimeno (21,991 euros) also exceed 21,000 euros. In this mid-to-high segment are also Mancha Real (21,774 euros), Andújar (21,656 euros), Torredelcampo (21,555 euros), and Cazorla (21,529 euros).
Below 21,000 euros, a large group of municipalities shows gross average incomes ranging from 18,000 to 20,000 euros, with a fairly homogeneous positive evolution. Notable increases include Bailén (20,842 euros), with a rise of 1,436 euros, Los Villares (20,030 euros), Arjona (19,436 euros), and Alcaudete (19,261 euros). Significant increases were also observed in Villatorres (1,026 euros), Guarromán (1,000 euros), and Villanueva de la Reina (1,140 euros). Others like Marmolejo (19,049 euros), Rus (19,088 euros), Baños de la Encina (18,980 euros), and Villacarrillo (18,401 euros) show an upward trend, albeit with more moderate income levels.
At the lower end, localities such as Jódar (15,602 euros), Bedmar y Garcíez (15,925 euros), Cabra del Santo Cristo (15,416 euros), and Torreblascopedro (15,513 euros) record reduced income levels. Huesa, with 15,230 euros, remains among the poorest municipalities in the province and in Spain, despite a notable increase of 1,572 euros. Alongside Huesa, Montizón (14,843 euros), Noalejo (14,864 euros), and Cambil (14,973 euros) fall below 15,000 euros, highlighting structural challenges.
The general trend between 2022 and 2023 is one of growth, with significant increases in Castellar (1,720 euros), Siles (1,270 euros), Baeza (1,253 euros), and Torredelcampo (1,174 euros). Valdepeñas de Jaén (1,030 euros), Porcuna (1,016 euros), and Santisteban del Puerto (1,092 euros) also saw growth. However, three municipalities experienced declines: Torres (-527 euros), Noalejo (-453 euros), and Alcalá la Real (-195 euros), underscoring the heterogeneity of economic evolution.
The economic gap remains pronounced, with over 16,000 euros difference between La Guardia de Jaén (31,123 euros) and Montizón (14,843 euros). Although the average gross income in Jaén has improved, the challenge persists in achieving more balanced growth that benefits the entire provincial territory.
