The Jaén City Council and the Compensation Board have confirmed that the urbanization works for the SUP2-1 sector, a development project stalled since the early 2000s, will commence in November. This project includes the construction of 1,150 homes, both Social Housing (VPO) and open market, in a strategic area located between El Bulevar, the Renfe railway line, and the road to Fuerte del Rey. The total investment for this initiative amounts to 17 million euros.
The mayor, Julio Millán, along with the Councilor for Urbanism, África Colomo, and the President of the Compensation Board, Blas Serrano, held a working meeting to expedite the project's processing. The 200,000 m² affected area, situated at the intersection of Comunidad Foral de Navarra and País Vasco streets, addresses a high residential demand in the city.
“"The idea is that before the end of the year, preferably in November, we can start the urbanization"
Blas Serrano detailed that coordination with construction companies is already underway for the installation of basic services such as lighting, sanitation, and cabling, which are prerequisites for construction. The sector also allocates 35,000 m² for green areas, 10,000 m² for commercial and restaurant use, 25,000 m² for public facilities, and over 800 parking spaces. The operation is expected to generate municipal income through licenses and create employment during the construction phase.
Julio Millán emphasized the confidence generated among investors and developers due to the council's urban planning momentum, enabling initiatives that had been dormant for years to move forward. África Colomo, for her part, recalled that preparatory work, including archaeological clearance of the land and ensuring electrical supplies, was carried out during the previous government term.
The Councilor for Urbanism framed this action within a broader municipal plan that encompasses over 3,500 homes in various parts of Jaén, of different typologies, to meet the existing housing demand.
