The reading promotion project developed by the Municipal Public Library «Cronista Joaquín Cortés Gomariz» in Pedro Abad has been selected for the María Moliner Contest for municipalities under 50,000 inhabitants for the year 2026. The Sub-Directorate General of Library Coordination of the Ministry of Culture has awarded the institution a grant of 2,777.77 euros to support its cultural activities.
The initiative, titled 'A Cognitively Active Library', has achieved a score of 85.5 points, ranking 11th out of 562 projects presented nationwide. This achievement marks the first time the municipality of Pedro Abad has received this recognition from the Ministry of Culture, consolidating its cultural leadership in the province of Córdoba.
The awarded project proposes a transversal journey through the human life cycle, emphasizing the public library's role as a space for connection, cohesion, and community living. It aims to foster intergenerational bonds between the elderly and the young, promoting reading from early childhood to active aging.
The expert committee evaluated the project with 38 points for interest, 7.5 for clarity, 15 for impact, 5 for statistics, 10 for collaboration, and 10 for development area. Nationally, 1,100,000 euros were distributed among 370 selected projects.

We came in 11th place, just two points away from the big prize of 10,000 euros, but this result reflects the immense talent of our technicians and the soul they put into the 'Cronista Joaquín Cortés Gomariz' library. These 2,777 euros will be maximized so that our library continues to be a vibrant space for coexistence and inclusion, a place where the bonds between our elders and the youngest are strengthened daily through reading."
The Mayor of Pedro Abad, Juan Antonio Reyes, expressed his pride in this historic recognition, highlighting the talent of the technicians and the passion they bring to the library. He assured that the grant will be fully utilized to strengthen the library as a space for coexistence and inclusion.
