The mayor of the town, Lola Amo, provided an update on the situation, describing the past few hours as “tough” and highlighting the initial efforts to provide assistance. Rescue operations have been “constant and highly coordinated,” with the participation of the Local Police, Civil Guard, Firefighters, and Civil Protection.
On Monday night, following the incident, Firefighters submerged into the river and worked until the early hours, supported by drones to improve visibility in the dark.
On Tuesday, a Civil Guard helicopter joined the operation, which continued throughout the day with the GEAS team, the Civil Guard, and Civil Protection. The search was suspended at nightfall and has been reinitiated by GEAS this Wednesday.
“"We are talking about a person. Someone who had embarked on a migratory journey seeking a better life, with their own history and circumstances."
The mayor emphasized the importance of the missing person's life, a migrant seeking a better future. She stressed that the efforts of all security forces are justified by the fundamental principle that “a life matters,” assuring that search operations will continue throughout Wednesday.
