The Civil and Instruction Section of the Montoro Court of First Instance, in its second chamber, has formalized the selection of three experts to conduct the investigation into the tragic rail accident in Adamuz. This incident, which took place on Sunday, January 18, led to the deaths of 46 people and left more than 120 injured.
The designated professionals have been summoned to the judicial headquarters this Tuesday. However, judicial sources have indicated that these experts have the right to decline the appointment, which could prolong the process until three specialists are found who accept the task.
According to the procedural order issued by the Justice Administration Lawyer, the selected individuals are three engineers. Their appearance this Tuesday aims at the formal acceptance of the position, the reception of detailed information about the procedure and the expert report to be carried out, as well as the requirements for preparing the budget requested by the Junta de Andalucía. This appointment follows a selection process that has lasted over a month, involving professional associations from both Andalucía and the rest of Spain.
The resolution, dated April 16, can be appealed through a motion for reconsideration before the Justice Administration Lawyer. Interested parties have a period of three working days, starting from the day after notification, to submit a written appeal to the Judicial Office, detailing the alleged infringement.
In connection with this case, the Córdoba Prosecutor's Office had already requested in February that the Instruction Section of the Montoro Court of First Instance order an expert report to determine the exact causes of the accident. The Public Prosecutor's Office proposed that the experts be Civil Engineers, while leaving open the possibility of appointing other technical experts if necessary, depending on the results of the initial actions and expert reports.
