The summits of Sierra Nevada woke up covered in fresh snow, an unusual phenomenon for May that has erased the traces of recent Saharan dust episodes. This precipitation has restored a more winter-like appearance to the ski resort, with the snowline located between 2,400 and 2,500 meters.

The drop in temperatures was key to this snowfall, with weak frosts recorded in the high mountains. According to the weather report from the public company managing the ski resort, minimums reached -1.9 degrees Celsius at Radiotelescopio and -0.1 degrees Celsius at Laguna Seca, making them the lowest in Spain this Saturday.

This meteorological event occurs shortly after the ski season closed on May 3, which ended with 34.2 kilometers of slopes and snow depths between 120 and 300 centimeters. The Atlantic storm responsible for the snowfall has also brought significant rainfall to other towns in the province, such as Baza with 19.4 liters per square meter and Dílar with 19.2 liters.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) expects the effects of this storm to extend until Sunday, keeping temperatures below normal for this time of year. For next week, cloudy skies are expected, with maximums exceeding 20 degrees Celsius but without a significant rise.
