The Provincial Council of Almería, through its Sports Department, has promoted the modernization of the sports pavilion court in the municipality of Alcolea. The project, inaugurated by deputy María Luisa Cruz and mayor Antonio Ocaña, involved removing the deteriorated floor, installing new sports flooring, and repainting the court. This renovation aims to provide a more suitable and functional space for year-round sports practice.
The investment from the Provincial Council amounts to 48,000 euros, funded by the Sports Facilities Investment Plan 2024. This plan aims to cooperate with local councils to equalize sports opportunities across the province, promoting sports participation and improving infrastructure in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.
Deputy María Luisa Cruz highlighted that the action addresses a need in Alcolea and improves a key space for practicing various disciplines. She noted that the new flooring makes the facility "more suitable, comfortable, and functional" for residents and athletes.
This sports infrastructure plan has over 1.8 million euros allocated for this edition and is divided into two lines: repair and improvement of existing facilities, and creation or enhancement of trails. The objective is to ensure access to quality sports facilities for all residents of Almería.
Additionally, the Provincial Council of Almería has supported the launch of the municipal gym in Alcolea, contributing 180,000 euros for the adaptation of a municipal warehouse. This gym covers over 117 square meters of usable space and includes changing rooms, showers, and restrooms.
