The June full moon, which this year coincides with being the first of summer, is named the Strawberry Moon. This astronomical phenomenon will be observable in the Almería sky during the early hours of Monday, June 29th to Tuesday, June 30th. Although the satellite has been growing in magnitude in the preceding days, its peak visibility is expected shortly before 2 AM, appearing notably low on the horizon.
According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the phenomenon's apogee will occur at 1:56 AM on Tuesday, June 30th. However, the moon will already be visible from its rise on Monday afternoon, at 7:56 PM, with observation intensifying after sunset, scheduled for 9:41 PM.
The observation of the Strawberry Moon in the province of Almería could be affected by the storm and rain warning in effect until 9:00 PM on Monday. The sky is expected to clear to allow viewing of the satellite, which, unlike other astronomical phenomena, can be observed directly. It is recommended to find a location without visual obstructions such as trees, mountains, or buildings.
The name 'Strawberry Moon' originates from the ancient traditions of the Native Americans, who associated this June full moon with the strawberry harvest. The reddish or orange hue the celestial body may take is due to its low position on the horizon, not its name.
