The forest fire declared in the Almerian town of Los Gallardos has caused, so far, five fatalities and eight injuries. Of the injured, four are in serious condition and will be transferred from the Hospital de Torrecárdenas to the Hospital Virgen del Rocío in Seville, a reference center for major burns that treats over a hundred patients annually.
The Minister of Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, provided the latest update on the incident, not ruling out the possibility of more victims. It is estimated that most of the affected individuals are foreign nationals.
Currently, 464 personnel are working to control the fire, which has spread rapidly in an area with difficult topography. The left flank, the most active, has prevented heavy machinery from entering.
The fire has burned a perimeter of 3,150 hectares. The extinction efforts involve 124 vehicles, 21 task forces with 150 firefighters, and nine trucks. Additionally, 16 aircraft have been deployed, and 11 aerial resources are scheduled to be activated. The Military Emergencies Unit (UME), dispatched from Morón de la Frontera (Seville) with 64 members, twelve fire engines, and two water tankers, has also joined the efforts.
