The mayor of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, visited the facilities of Proyecto Hombre Almería, located in the Centro Histórico. During her visit, she acknowledged the "great silent work" carried out by the organization, which has been helping individuals and families affected by addiction for almost a quarter of a century.
Accompanied by the director-president of Proyecto Hombre, Ana Mazón, the president of the association Alba, Mari Carmen Saracho, and councilor Óscar Bleda, the mayor toured the facilities and met the professional team. A meeting was also held with users and their families, who shared motivational testimonies.
Last year, Proyecto Hombre Almería provided assistance to nearly 2,000 people. Of these, almost 200 participated in treatment programs, 116 in family programs, 128 received attention at the El Acebuche Penitentiary Center, and 1,481 young people participated in prevention programs in educational centers across the province.
The mayor highlighted the collaboration of the Almería City Council, emphasizing the organization's "fundamental" role in reorienting lives, fostering autonomy and self-esteem, and facilitating the social reintegration of individuals with addictions.
“"One of the main problems is the stigma of feeling singled out when asking for help. We want people to know that they can move forward, that we don't judge here, that we accompany them, and that we have many personalized programs to turn the situation around."
Ana Mazón, president of Proyecto Hombre, stressed the importance of making addiction visible and combating stigma. She invited any individual or family facing addiction problems to seek advice and support through their personalized programs.
