The province of Almería has a historical relationship with naturism, being a European pioneer by hosting one of the first officially designated spaces for this activity. Currently, the Almería coast offers two main beaches where nudism can be practiced.
One of these beaches is located in the municipality of Vera, a town that marked a milestone in Spain by being the first place to officially permit nudism. On this beach, a specific section in its northern stretch is designated for naturists, while the southern area is used by conventional bathers.
The other nudist beach in the province is situated in San José, within the municipality of Níjar. Known as Barronal beach, it is characterized by being more rustic and isolated compared to Vera's beach, which is more integrated into the urban center.
Vera, as an Andalusian destination for naturists, not only offers this beach but also accommodations and developments dedicated to this practice. The northern stretch of El Playazo, extending over two kilometers, is the focal point for nudism in the area and has received a blue flag this year.
Meanwhile, Barronal beach in San José is distinguished by its more challenging access, via dirt tracks, and its location within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, nestled between the renowned Genoveses and Mónsul beaches. Spanning 500 meters, this cove of fine, golden sand is less crowded and offers a wilder environment, with small paths leading to adjacent coves.
