Francisco Montero Ramos, born in El Zapillo in 1945, emerged as an emblematic figure in Almerian football, leaving an indelible mark on Agrupación Deportiva Almería after a promising spell at Real Madrid and an exemplary working life.

The story of Paco Montero, born in El Zapillo on April 19, 1945, is one of innate talent honed in the streets and schoolyards of Almería. His skill with the ball led him to join Hispania FJ at just 13 years old, where he already stood out for his technique and collective sense, competing with older players.
In 1963, Montero's family moved to Vic, where his progression continued, leading to his debut in the Third Division. A year later, in 1964, Real Madrid signed him, incorporating him into the first team's training sessions under the direction of Miguel Muñoz. During this period, Montero had the opportunity to learn from figures like Manolo Velázquez, who became a mentor to him. Despite his quality and discipline, the lack of official playing time at the white club led to a series of loan spells.
His career was marked by untimely injuries, such as a forearm fracture while playing for Rayo Vallecano, which kept him sidelined for ten months. He played for teams like U.D. Sanz, Terrassa, and Figueras, and in 1970, he achieved promotion to the Second Division with Nástic de Tarragona.

His career could have been different, but his attitude always kept him at the forefront of effort.

In 1972, at 27 years old, Paco Montero returned to his hometown to join Agrupación Deportiva Almería, presided over by his friend Ángel Martínez. For six consecutive seasons, he became a fundamental pillar of the team, participating in promotion playoffs and sharing the locker room with players who made history in Almerian football. His efforts culminated in promotion to the Second Division in the 1977-78 season. He ended his sports career at Poli Ejido in 1979.
Parallel to his football career, Montero built an exemplary working life at the Michelin Experience Center, where he worked for thirty years. Personally, he formed a strong family with Encarna Martínez, whom he married in 1972, and they had three children: Encarni, Francisco, and Javier. His legacy is synonymous with quality, humility, and respect, both in sports and in his personal and professional life.
