A total of eighty children, aged between 4 and 14, have participated in the XX Youth Fishing Competition held at the Club de Mar de Almería, an initiative promoting a love for the sea and sport fishing under the catch-and-release method.
The competition, part of the Almería City Council's Sports Fair, brought together young anglers for a day dedicated to practicing this seafaring tradition. The event aims to instill respect for the marine environment and foster camaraderie among participants and their families.
During the activity, the youngsters were able to apply their fishing skills, experience the thrill of each catch, and learn about the importance of caring for the Mediterranean. The day unfolded in an atmosphere of learning and fun, supported by their families.

Antonio Casimiro, Councilor for Active City, Urban Mobility, and Sport, highlighted the sporting and educational value of the initiative, linked to the seafaring tradition of Almería. He noted that fishing teaches children to respect the sea and emphasized the importance of facilities and clubs as spaces for the community.

"For us, it is a satisfaction to see the club full of children enjoying a day like this. We want them to learn about fishing, its techniques, and at the same time, discover all that the sea can teach them."
Mariano Sarmiento, president of the Club de Mar de Almería, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout of children and their enjoyment of the day, emphasizing the goal of having them learn about fishing and the sea.
Rafael Rodríguez, Fishing representative for the club, highlighted the role of the Youth Fishing School, which introduces youngsters to basic techniques and equipment handling, promoting responsible behavior towards the marine environment. The competition goes beyond mere competition, aiming to build a conscious relationship with the Mediterranean.
