The intervention, part of the ‘Almería Open and Meeting City 2030’ strategy, aims to transform the monument's south entrance to make it more accessible, secure, and attractive. Tendering will occur imminently, with an estimated execution period of seven months.
The Mayor highlighted the project's importance for the recovery of the Historic Center, emphasizing that the Alcazaba is a fundamental element of Almería's identity and a heritage landmark for Andalusia and Spain. She recalled previous actions such as the Mediterranean Gardens of La Hoya and the renovation of Plaza Vieja.
The main objective is to enhance the visitor experience by expanding pedestrian areas, eliminating architectural barriers, and improving security. New garden areas, shaded spaces, and more efficient lighting will be created, integrating the southern slope scenically.
Architect Laila Guerrero explained that the project, covering over 2,000 square meters, includes pavement renewal, urban furniture improvements, new tree planting and green areas, and a comprehensive upgrade of public lighting.

This action aligns with the strategic axis ‘Almería with talent for inclusion’ of the Integrated Action Plan, which uses culture and heritage as tools for social integration and urban regeneration.
