The police operation in Almería has culminated in the dismantling of a money concealment scheme, following an exhaustive financial investigation. Those involved face charges for public health offenses and money laundering, after the channeling of economic benefits derived from drug trafficking was confirmed.
The investigation originated from inquiries by Group II of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade, which identified an active cocaine and hashish sales point in a capital city residence. Police surveillance confirmed a constant flow of buyers, leading to a house search where narcotics, distribution tools, and over 12,800 euros in cash were seized.
Subsequently, Group XI of Money Laundering, a recently established unit within the Provincial Police Station of Almería, took over the financial investigation. Its objective was to identify assets and properties subject to seizure and to determine the commission of the money laundering offense. The complexity of this phase lay in tracking assets, analyzing real ownerships, and studying financial products, with particular attention to money traceability.
Agents analyzed hundreds of financial movements, detecting over 460 operations through innovative payment services, with annual incomes exceeding 24,000 euros. Furthermore, multiple bank accounts associated with the investigated individuals were identified in official databases, suggesting a strategy to disperse funds and hinder their tracking.
This operation is part of the V Security Plan for Campo de Gibraltar, which aims to intensify economic pressure on drug trafficking organizations. The National Police not only focuses on dismantling sales points and arresting those responsible but also on pursuing pecuniary liability to cut off the economic flow supporting drug trafficking, preventing the reinvestment of illicit profits and hindering the reproduction of these criminal structures. The investigated individuals, one of whom is already in prison, remain at judicial disposal, and further asset-related measures are not ruled out.
