The Almería Fair hosted this Sunday the traditional Tribute to Women, bringing together nearly a thousand women at the Municipal Tent. This annual event, a fixture in the festive program, aims to highlight the female contribution in all social spheres.
The community gathering was attended by the mayor of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, accompanied by the Councilor for Family, Inclusion, and Equality, Paola Laynez, and other local government members. The event featured a lunch, music, contests, and various activities designed to strengthen bonds among attendees.
“"Once again this year, we gather to pay a well-deserved tribute to the women of Almería."
This edition also presented a special recognition to Loleta Rojas Blanco, a user of the Municipal Women's Centers, for her "commitment, participation, and involvement" in the City Council's initiatives.
The mayor emphasized the significance of the Municipal Women's Centers, which are celebrating 21 years of service, describing them as "a basic resource for women and for Almería as a whole." These centers, managed by the Department of Family, Inclusion, and Equality, are key to fostering participation, well-being, training, and equality.
Currently, Almería operates three centers located on Terriza, Antonio Muñoz Zamora, and Instinción streets. Their quarterly program offers 270 activities and 3,200 places, with an average occupancy rate of 95% during the 2025-2026 academic year. Language, computer, and guitar courses are among the most popular, with new activities added annually based on user demand.
In addition to training and leisure, the centers provide psychological support, legal advice, equality awareness programs, gender violence prevention initiatives, cultural activities, and work-life balance measures, such as free childcare areas.
The Tribute to Women also featured the flamenco costume contest 'Lunares y volantes' (Dots and Ruffles), with 25 participants. The jury, comprising Curro Ruiz, María José Alcaide, and Yasmina Ortega, selected the three winners. The event was hosted by Mar Segura and concluded with live music by the group Jesús Cortés.
