The fire started shortly after 09:00 AM in the Port of Almería, alerting the city with a large plume of smoke visible from many points. According to Almería Fire Department personnel at the scene, the origin of the blaze is believed to be several dozen steel and polypropylene pipes that were stacked and ignited for unknown reasons during cutting work.
These are plastic pipes used for gas channeling. Approximately fifty of these items were present in the incident area, causing not only flames but also a significant amount of black smoke. Firefighters are working on extinguishing the blaze, supported by officers from the National Police, Local Police, Port Police, and Civil Guard.
“"The Port Authority of Almería has activated the port's Self-Protection Plan, in blue phase, and is coordinated with 112. There have been no personal injuries and firefighters are acting. At this moment, the fire is controlled, favored by the absence of wind."
Fortunately, the wind direction was favorable, preventing the smoke column from heading towards the city and directing it out to sea. The Port Authority of Almería reported the activation of its Self-Protection Plan and confirmed that no personal injuries occurred, adding that the fire is under control due to the lack of wind.
