Approximately one thousand workers from the fruit and vegetable handling and packaging sector in Almería gathered this Sunday, April 19, at the Anfiteatro de la Rambla to demand the update of their provincial collective agreement, which has been stalled since late 2024.
The demonstration, organized by UGT FICA Almería and CCOO Industria de Almería, aimed to address the deadlock in collective bargaining, with the agreement having expired on December 31, 2024. Unions seek to gauge worker support and plan further actions if no significant progress is made in negotiations.

"Those who select, calibrate, and package these products in warehouses, however, operate under an agreement expired since December 31, 2024, and with working conditions that illustrate Almería's great paradox: a province that contributes record export figures while its working class registers some of the lowest wages and purchasing power in the State."
During the protest, a spokesperson for the PSOE of Almería and candidate for the Andalusian Parliament, participated alongside other socialist representatives. The political representative criticized the regional administration's lack of involvement in defending a vital sector for Almería's economy.
“
"The regional president should be supporting these workers and demanding that employers negotiate a good agreement."
She also expressed regret over the apparent indifference to the efforts of workers who ensure that Almería's products reach Spain and Europe in impeccable condition.
