Titled “Volunteering, disability, youth, and solidarity,” this initiative aims to encourage citizen participation and strengthen the skills of those involved in the field of disability. The main goal is to boost the associative fabric and promote the autonomy of people with disabilities through voluntary action.
For over a decade, FAAM has developed these training sessions, successfully training more than 300 people in both Almería and other regions of Spain. Initially in-person, these workshops transitioned to an online format after the pandemic, allowing for greater accessibility and national participation.
The two-afternoon program will cover crucial topics such as the role of volunteering in empowering individuals, its contribution to the 2030 Agenda, and real opportunities to engage in voluntary action within organizations dedicated to social inclusion for people with disabilities. Best practices and real experiences demonstrating the transformative impact of volunteering will also be presented.
These types of experiences reflect how voluntary action contributes to generating opportunities for participation and promoting the personal autonomy of people with disabilities.
A notable example from this edition is the experience of a person with severe physical disability who, with the support of volunteers from the residence for severely affected individuals managed by FAAM in the capital, was able to complete the Camino de Santiago last year. This experience highlights how volunteering facilitates the realization of dreams and the promotion of personal autonomy.
The federation continues its work to foster learning and awareness spaces, promoting citizen involvement and collaborative work to build a more inclusive society.
