A complex rescue operation has successfully saved six one-week-old kittens that were trapped inside a storm drain system in Almería. The operation, which lasted for two days, mobilized various municipal services and collaborating companies.
The alert was received on Friday morning, reporting the presence of three lactating kittens in a drainpipe. The team from the Municipal Center for Animal Protection and Adoption (CEPAaMA) immediately went to the scene and managed to rescue the first three visible animals. However, meows continued to be heard from inside the pipe, indicating that more young were still trapped.
Initial attempts to reach the animals were unsuccessful due to the depth and complexity of the installation, which prevented intervention without endangering the kittens' safety. Faced with this situation, the teams opted to excavate sections of the pipe to locate the remaining animals.
After several hours of work, the operators finally managed to rescue the remaining three kittens, completing an operation that concluded with six lives saved. Those in charge of the operation highlighted that the rescue was possible thanks to the coordinated work, perseverance, and commitment of all participants.
“"Today we celebrate more than a rescue: we celebrate teamwork."
The CEPAaMA team expressed gratitude for the collaboration provided throughout the operation by the mayoress of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, as well as councilors Antonio Urdiales and Juanjo Segura, and the company Aqualia, whose involvement was key to the rescue's happy ending.
