Airport operations in Melilla were severely affected last Tuesday, April 21, due to the presence of low-lying clouds. This situation, although common, caused considerable inconvenience to air routes linking the autonomous city with various points on the peninsula, including the province of Almería.
Difficulties for aircraft landing from Málaga, Madrid, and Almería resulted in the cancellation of multiple flights, the diversion of others, and significant delays in scheduled connections.
Specifically, the flight departing from Almería at 10:45 AM bound for Melilla was unable to complete its journey. After several attempts to land by circling the area, the Air Nostrum flight was ultimately redirected to Málaga airport.
The situation was even more critical for flights scheduled to depart from Melilla to Almería. Connections planned for 4:15 PM and 6:05 PM, with expected arrivals at El Alquián airfield at 5:10 PM and 7:00 PM respectively, were canceled and did not take off from the autonomous city. Additionally, a flight from Granada was canceled, and others from Madrid and Seville were diverted.
