The free-access performance will feature an orchestra of over 40 professors, both national and international, and two local choirs. This event is made possible by the interest and dedication of Ángel Valdivia Gerada and his nephew Juan Andrés Carmona, a violinist and director of the International Music Festival (FIMSAL).
The original score, rescued from the 'Adela Alcocer' Archive (AMAL) after decades of neglect, was composed by the young priest Manuel García Martínez (music) and the poet Antonio Ledesma Hernández (lyrics). The anthem was officially approved by the City Council in a plenary session on August 21, 1916.
The anthem was orchestrated in 1916 and premiered at the bullring, achieving great success despite the acoustic limitations of the time. It was later included in a concert by the municipal band.
The original anthem was dismissed by a Franco-era mayor, Navarro Gay, in favor of another composition. The lyricist's daughter, Dña. Ventura Ledesma, strongly protested, but her claim was ignored.
Manuel García Martínez (1884-1928), choirmaster of Almería Cathedral, also composed a march-anthem for the Crown Regiment. He passed away at the age of 45.
Antonio Ledesma Hernández (1856-1937) was a poet from Almería. His joint work with García Martínez represents a symphonic ode to Almería.
