The Satse report emphasizes the urgent need for a 'technical inspection' of Almería's healthcare infrastructure to adapt to increased demand. The union proposes building at least four new health centers to replace obsolete ones and renovating or expanding eight others.
“"No administration plans with a vision for the future and, at best, thinks ten years ahead."
The analysis details that key hospitals such as Poniente and La Inmaculada, in Huércal-Overa, were insufficient from their inauguration. The case of Huércal-Overa is particularly notable, as its initial project was scaled down before construction, leaving it without the necessary capacity for the region. Both require significant expansion, which, for El Ejido, would mean almost doubling its capacity due to strong population growth.
The Hospital de Torrecárdenas also faces issues, with saturation in the Emergency area, particularly in the treatment room and Zone Z, where lack of space and privacy affects both patients and professionals. Satse also urges the 'humanization' of units like the palliative care ward at Almería hospital, ensuring individual rooms.
In the capital, the relocation of the Bola Azul emergency services is requested, as they are located in a semi-basement prone to flooding. In the Almería District of primary care, the construction of new buildings is considered essential to replace the Plaza de Toros, Oliveros, and San José centers in Níjar, which can no longer adequately serve the population. Additionally, reforms are highlighted for the Cabo de Gata clinic to improve restroom conditions.
