Installation of bollards in an urban area to restrict vehicle access.
The Almería City Council, through its departments of Traffic, Citizen Security, Emergencies, Public Works, Maintenance, Accessibility, and Blue Economy, will begin work this week to eliminate the presence of motorhomes and similar vehicles in unauthorized areas of the former Fairgrounds.
The municipal intervention will focus on the area around Avenida del Mediterráneo, specifically the former Fairgrounds. The primary goal is to remove motorhomes, caravans, and similar vehicles from unauthorized parking spots, as part of a strategy to reclaim and organize public spaces.
This location is considered sensitive due to its proximity to key facilities such as the Maestro Padilla Auditorium and the Parque de las Familias. In recent years, it has been improperly used as an irregular parking area, prompting the need for action from local authorities.
Planned measures include the installation of bollards at strategic points, identified after a technical visit, and earthworks to block unauthorized access. These actions aim to prevent improper occupation of the open spaces. Preliminary earthworks are expected to begin this week, with bollard installation scheduled to start around April 13.

"This action is part of the municipal objective to end the presence of caravans in unauthorized spaces, especially in such relevant enclaves as the former fairgrounds, thus guaranteeing safety, coexistence, and the proper use of public space."
Councillor María del Mar García Lorca stated that this initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure the proper use of public space. She also noted that the new Mobility Ordinance, currently being processed, will include specific regulations for these types of vehicles, complementing physical actions with a robust regulatory framework.

"The combination of regulatory measures and on-the-ground actions allows us to move firmly towards the recovery of urban spaces and their use in accordance with current regulations."
For her part, Sacramento Sánchez, Councillor for Public Works, highlighted the coordinated municipal action, which responds to a social demand raised in meetings with local residents. This intervention seeks to resolve the improper occupation of certain city spaces, establishing the former Fairgrounds as an orderly, safe, and fully integrated area within Almería's urban fabric.
