Temperatures soared in the province of Almería this Wednesday, May 20, 2026, marking the hottest day of the year. Thermometers have well exceeded 30 degrees in the capital and numerous towns, registering values more typical of summer than the current season.

The day's record was set in Macael, where temperatures reached 33.3 °C at 12:40 PM, according to data from the Meteorological Association of the Southeast (Ametse). This thermal increase was significant compared to the previous day; at Almería Airport, the official station of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), a maximum temperature of 32.2 °C was recorded at 3:40 PM, almost ten degrees higher than Tuesday's 22.5 °C.

Numerous municipalities in Almería surpassed 30 °C. Notable among them were Macael (33.3 °C), Viator (32.7 °C), Alhabia (32.4 °C), Almería Airport (32.2 °C), Huércal de Almería (31.9 °C), Benahadux (31.9 °C), Fines (31.7 °C), Albox (31.4 °C), Arboleas (31.3 °C), and Santa Fe de Mondújar (31.1 °C). Locations such as Pechina, Rioja, Cantoria, Alsodux, Bentarique, Gádor, Benizalón, El Chive (Lubrín), and Zurgena also recorded highs above 30 degrees.

Forecasts for the coming days indicate that the heat will persist, especially in the Bajo Andarax and Tabernas regions. For this Thursday, May 21, maximum temperatures of up to 32 °C are expected in municipalities like Viator and Gádor. On Friday, temperatures could rise to 34 °C in the Bajo Andarax and areas of El Ejido, while the Valle del Almanzora would reach 32 °C, and Almería capital, 31 °C.

During the weekend, summer temperatures will continue. Saturday is expected to see up to 35 °C in the Bajo Andarax and around 34 °C in Tabernas. Many inland areas and the Poniente region will also exceed 30 degrees. On the eastern coast, maximums are expected to be around 26-27 °C. Sunday anticipates a slight decrease, although temperatures will still hover around 32 or 33 degrees in the Tabernas desert and the Bajo Andarax.
