The province of Almería is approaching the symbolic figure of 800,000 inhabitants, reaching 788,934 residents as of July 1, 2026, according to provisional data from the National Statistics Institute (INE). This figure represents an increase of 2,527 people compared to the previous quarter and 11,544 over the past year.
Population growth is significantly driven by the foreign-born population. In the last quarter, Almería gained 850 Spanish residents and 1,677 foreigners. Compared to a year ago, out of 11,544 new residents, 6,297 are foreign nationals and 5,257 are Spanish citizens, meaning that for every 100 new registrations, 55 are of foreign origin.
Nationally, Spain surpassed 49.8 million inhabitants as of July 1, 2026, with an increase of 104,178 people in the second quarter, marking a historical high. This national growth was also due to an increase in foreign-born individuals, while the Spanish-born population decreased.
The number of households in Spain stood at 19,874,860, an increase of 58,794 during the quarter. The main nationalities of immigrants in Spain during this period were Colombian (34,000 arrivals), Venezuelan (23,300), and Moroccan (21,100).
All autonomous communities and cities experienced population growth. The largest increases were recorded in the Valencian Community (0.43%), Balearic Islands (0.36%), and the Principality of Asturias (0.29%). The data from the Continuous Population Statistics (ECP) are provisional and will be revised annually.
