The city of Almería has incorporated new cleaning machinery with specialized functions to address one of the most persistent aesthetic challenges in its public spaces: the accumulation of chewing gum on pavements. These three vehicles have been purchased by the City Council for the care of the natural travertine stone, a material that is prominent in areas such as the Plaza Vieja and the city's main artery, whose comprehensive renovation is in its final stages.
Given the noble yet fragile nature of the surface, the City Council has formalized a supply contract worth over 214,000 euros. The central piece of equipment in this initiative is a high-pressure washer, awarded to the company Carrocerías Hermont for 83,490 euros. This compact hot water vehicle stands out for its efficiency in removing stubborn residues, minimizing the use of chemical products and water consumption.
A notable feature of this equipment is its floor-scrubbing hood, which incorporates a special 'gum removal' nozzle. This technology allows for precise action on adhered chewing gum without damaging the porosity of the travertine. With a 1,000-liter aluminum tank and a high-pressure system, the machine ensures deep cleaning in high pedestrian traffic areas.
Complementing this equipment, the Paseo de Almería will enhance its cleaning with two battery-powered heavy-duty scrubbers, supplied by Tennant Sales & Services Spain following an award of 130,512 euros. These machines, which operate quietly and efficiently, feature ride-on technology, climate-controlled cabins, and high-capacity brushes, allowing them to cover large areas quickly. Once received, these units will become municipal property and will be integrated into the new street and beach cleaning contract, which is currently pending award.
