Under the theme Living in al-Andalus: urbanism, housing and material culture, this congress is an initiative of the Vera City Council, supported by the University of Granada and the Production, Exchange, Narratives and Materiality Research Group. It is part of the scientific dissemination program of the Bayra General Research Project.
“"Initiatives such as the International Bayra Archaeology Congress contribute to the knowledge of our common past and highlight the importance of joint work between administrations and scientific institutions in the preservation and study of heritage."
For his part, Alfonso García, mayor of Vera, emphasized his government team's commitment to promoting historical knowledge. He highlighted that the congress is a crucial platform to bring Vera's valuable archaeological legacy closer to citizens, hoping it will generate new lines of research and significant discoveries.
This third edition consolidates the congress as a benchmark event for the study of the medieval and post-medieval past of the Iberian Southeast. The meeting will bring together experts in history, archaeology, architecture, and restoration to discuss the city, housing, and material culture of the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, with a particular focus on urbanism and domestic spaces.
The 2026 edition will include a special session titled Management Horizons. Strategy, financing and digital future of Heritage. It will address topics such as the digitalization of museums and collections, the use of 3D technologies, data management, and heritage planning instruments. Researchers from various national and international academic institutions, such as the University of Granada, the University of Málaga, the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and the Université Toulouse, will participate in the event, which also includes a visit to the Bayra archaeological site.
