More than 260 athletes will compete this Sunday, April 26, in the 'Jairo Ruiz' City of Almería Triathlon, a consolidated event that is part of the Andalusian circuit and counts towards the national ranking.
The nineteenth edition of this competition, named after Paralympic medalist Jairo Ruiz, has filled all its slots, expanding participation to 261 triathletes. The event was presented by the councilor for Active City, Urban Mobility and Sports, accompanied by the technical director of the event and the delegate of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation.
The triathlon will be contested in sprint format, covering 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling on an urban circuit, and 5 kilometers of running. The route will start at El Palmeral, run parallel to the sea to the University roundabout, include a section along Avenida del Mediterráneo, and return to the starting point, offering an attractive course for both participants and the public.
The delegate of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation highlighted the participation of representatives from the nine clubs in Almería, as well as from all Andalusian provinces and various locations across Spain. Meanwhile, the technical director of the event emphasized that this is the first race of the Andalusian circuit, characterized by a high competitive level.
Furthermore, the inclusive nature of the event was praised, as it will feature two athletes in the Paralympic category, a fundamental aspect of the sports model being promoted: open, inclusive, and accessible to all. An appeal was made to citizens and visitors to attend and enjoy the atmosphere and cheer on the participants, demonstrating Almería's commitment to sports.
