The Historic Quarter of Almería is preparing for a special celebration this Friday, reviving the festivity of San Indalecio, the city's patron saint, which had previously gone unnoticed in the local calendar. This initiative, promoted by the Historic Quarter Neighborhood Association of Almería, aims to revitalize popular traditions.
The street party will begin at 8:30 PM in the Cathedral Square. It will feature the collaboration of the Cathedral of Almería and its main objective is to “recover and strengthen popular traditions as a space for encounter, coexistence, and social cohesion.”
“"Popular traditions play an essential role in a society increasingly marked by individualism and social disconnection. Activities like this street party foster intergenerational encounters, strengthen neighborhood ties, and contribute to building more humane, participatory, and supportive communities."
The event will feature a musical performance by the group Los Vinilos, highly regarded by the people of Almería, who will provide live music. This inaugural San Indalecio street party is intended to become an annual fixture.
The celebration is open to all citizens and aims to be a festive and participatory day, where neighbors, families, and visitors can enjoy a moment of unity in one of the city's most emblematic spaces. The goal is to highlight the human, cultural, and historical heritage of the Historic Quarter.
Before the street party, a cloistered procession will take place after mass at the Cathedral. This celebration will serve to remember the figure of San Indalecio, patron saint of the Almerian diocese and a symbol of Almería's Christian and historical roots, whose legacy represents an element of collective identity that has accompanied the city's social and cultural life for centuries.
