Over the past week, the IES Azcona in Almería has become a European benchmark by gathering deaf students from various nations. This event, part of an Erasmus+ program project, involved around thirty teachers, sign language interpreters, and students from Germany, Italy, Portugal, Norway, and Romania.
From Monday, April 20, to Friday, April 24, the delegations shared experiences, analyzed different educational models, and actively collaborated to promote more inclusive education. The educational community of the Almerian center played a fundamental role in this enriching exchange.
“"It has been a real challenge, stressful on one hand and very exciting on the other. We had never brought five countries together before."
An Italian sign language interpreter and Spanish teacher in Salerno highlighted the infrequency of such exchanges in Europe. She emphasized that the initiative provided a valuable opportunity for both students and teachers to share their daily lives and enjoy activities in a simple and fun way.
In addition to linguistic and personal exchanges, participants explored the cultural and natural richness of Almería. They enjoyed activities such as kayaking in Cabo de Gata, visiting the Alcazaba and the Cathedral, and exploring the Tabernas Desert and MiniHollywood Oasys. These experiences, according to sources from IES Azcona, exceeded all expectations.
The program concluded with an institutional visit to the Almerian authorities, solidifying the positive image that participants took away from the province, appreciating its landscapes, climate, and the hospitality received.
