Of the 4,480 Spanish nationality grants made in the province of Almería during 2025, a total of 2,252 were for individuals originating from African countries. This figure represents more than half of the total and underscores the significant establishment of these communities in the region.
Within the African continent, Morocco remains the primary country of origin, with 1,945 Moroccan citizens obtaining Spanish nationality, accounting for nearly 40% of all grants in the province.
Concurrently, a steady increase is observed in nationalities from Latin American countries. The most striking case is Peru, whose nationality acquisitions have risen dramatically, from 33 in 2020 to 538 in 2025. Other countries such as Colombia (from 62 to 274) and Venezuela (from 27 to 138) also show significant growth, while Ecuador accounts for 394 grants.
Collectively, South American countries contributed 1,609 new Spanish citizens to the province in 2025, establishing themselves as the second main origin after Africa. This trend contrasts with figures from five years ago, when a total of 1,565 acquisitions were recorded in 2020.
The overall statistics reveal a significant jump between 2021 and 2022, increasing from 2,666 grants to over 4,400. Since then, figures have remained high, exceeding 4,400 annually, suggesting a consolidation of accumulated residency rather than a temporary surge in new arrivals.
The combination of a strong African presence, Morocco's continued leadership, and the increasingly visible rise of several Latin American countries paints a different demographic picture for Almería compared to a decade ago, where obtaining Spanish nationality continues to grow but with an increasingly diverse origin.
