This operation, scheduled between May 11 and 29, will focus on over 1,542 hectares of rest plots and transit routes in peri-urban environments across 15 municipalities in Bajo Guadalquivir and Aljarafe. The initiative is part of the West Nile Virus Vector Surveillance and Control Plan.
Seven field teams will work for three to five days, intervening before and during the passage of the brotherhoods on their outbound and return journeys. The delineation of the intervention zones has been carried out using georeferenced information provided by the Andalusian Emergency Group (GREA).
Selected areas include 85 non-overlapping polygons for resting and overnight stays in 12 municipalities, covering 54.79 hectares, and 458 polygons for transit routes in the 15 municipalities, totaling 1,487.77 hectares. Aznalcázar and Villamanrique de la Condesa have the largest area of rest plots, while Alcalá de Guadaíra and Dos Hermanas are prominent in transit zones.
Actions include intensified surveillance of breeding grounds and the application of larvicidal treatments where larvae are detected. Additionally, adulticidal treatments will be carried out between May 11 and 15 to ensure a minimum two-day buffer period before the first brotherhoods pass through the selected areas starting May 18.
The Consortium for Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue of the Province of Seville will also deploy a fire prevention and extinction operation along the Aljarafe routes. This will involve 14 vehicles, 42 firefighters, and 642 hours of work, with detachments stationed in Villamanrique de la Condesa and Aznalcázar.
These actions are complemented by the waste collection and street cleaning operation, with a tender budget of approximately 160,000 euros, running from May 11 to July 3. This operation includes the installation of containers, daily waste collection, transport, and treatment, as well as cleaning of paths, transit areas, and high-traffic enclaves, with special attention to selective glass collection and the conservation of high-value natural spaces.
