The Granada Biosanitary Research Institute (ibs.GRANADA) joins the European Researchers' Night this Friday, September 25, with over 300 scientific activities in Granada, Ceuta, and Melilla.

The Granada Biosanitary Research Institute (ibs.GRANADA) is participating once again in The European Researchers' Night, one of Europe's main scientific outreach events. Researchers from the Institute will share their work with the public through various outreach activities, demonstrating how health research generates knowledge and contributes to improving prevention, diagnosis, and healthcare.
This year's edition, taking place on the evening of Friday, September 25, will bring together over 700 researchers from different institutions. The Paseo del Salón in Granada will be the main venue, hosting 33 thematic areas, including 27 stands from scientific, university, and outreach institutions, five Kids Corner spaces for children, and a Senior Corner. Through workshops, experiments, and demonstrations, science will reach audiences of all ages.
The initiative involves the participation of the University of Granada, CSIC centers (Experimental Station of the Zaidín, Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics, López-Neyra Institute of Parasitology and Biomedicine, School of Arabic Studies), the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME), the Andalusian Institute of Earth Sciences (IACT), the Parque de las Ciencias Consortium, ibs.GRANADA, the Archaeological and Ethnological Museum of Granada, the PTS Foundation, the Descubre Foundation, and the Granada City Council, among other entities.
Marga Sánchez Romero, Vice-Rector for University Extension at the UGR, highlighted the strong institutional support, stating that “all research institutions, all political institutions, are supporting this celebration of science.” She emphasized the transformative value of knowledge, noting that “science is the greatest way to solve the world's problems.”
Jorge Saavedra, Granada City Council's Culture Councilor, emphasized that the event exemplifies the city's model for its 2031 European Capital of Culture bid, asserting that “Culture and knowledge are a binomial that can only bring future and opportunities to Granada.” He also thanked the collaboration between administrations and entities.
Julia Gutiérrez Pastor, head of the Scientific Outreach Committee at the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute, described the initiative as an exceptional opportunity to bring science closer in a participatory and creative way. The CSIC centers have prepared proposals on topics such as earthquakes, glaciers, genetics, and eclipses, underscoring the responsibility of public centers in knowledge dissemination.
As a new feature, this edition includes a Senior Corner, a space dedicated to senior citizens, addressing topics like artificial intelligence, health, active aging, and technology, with intergenerational activities.
