Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the first popular tribute to Federico García Lorca in Granada, the Carlos Cano Memory Association has launched the music video for 'A las cinco de un 5 de junio'. This unique composition by the Granada-born singer-songwriter Carlos Cano aims to honor that June 5, 1976, when thousands gathered in Fuente Vaqueros to publicly reclaim the poet's figure.
The event, driven by individuals committed to Granada's culture, featured the participation of Carlos Cano and Juan de Loxa. From this experience emerged the song 'A las cinco de un 5 de junio', which Cano never recorded in a studio. Before his death, the artist gifted it to María Dolores Pradera, who included it on her tribute album in 2001.
Now, half a century after that event, the Carlos Cano Memory Association revives this work with a new version by the group El Hombre Garabato, produced specifically for the commemoration. The music video includes collaborations from artists such as Miguel Ríos, Amparo Sánchez, Antonio Arias, and features the choir from IES Fernando de los Ríos in Fuente Vaqueros, thus uniting different generations.
This initiative is part of the Fuente Vaqueros Book Fair's program, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the '5 a las 5' event. The project not only recovers a lesser-known work by Carlos Cano but also champions the spirit of gathering, culture, and freedom that inspired that historic day in 1976.
