The Huétor Vega City Council will distribute smart bracelets during the Patron Saint Festivals to prevent chemical submission, offering a quick and discreet tool for detecting substances in drinks.

The municipality of Huétor Vega has announced the implementation of a campaign to prevent chemical submission during its upcoming Patron Saint Festivals. As part of this initiative, smart bracelets designed to quickly and discreetly detect the presence of certain substances in drinks will be distributed.
Promoted by the Equality Department, the measure aims to foster a safe festive environment free from violence, allowing women to enjoy the celebrations with greater peace of mind. The bracelets feature chemical sensors that change color upon contact with specific drugs, including GHB, ketamine, and scopolamine (burundanga).
Using the device is simple: just apply a small amount of the drink to the detection areas. The absence of a color change indicates that no substances have been detected, while a color alteration serves as an alert signal. These bracelets are a complement to self-protection and precautionary measures.
Young women interested can obtain one of these bracelets at the Purple Point, located at the fairground. This information and support point will be open until Sunday, August 16, from ten in the evening to two in the morning.
At the Purple Point, two technicians from the Women's Information Center will offer advice, information, and support for any situation of harassment, violence, or rights violation that may occur during the festivities. The campaign is co-funded 50% by the Equality Department and resources allocated through the State Pact against Gender Violence.
The Councilor for Equality, Carolina Higueras, emphasized that the main objective is for young women to enjoy the festivals with complete freedom and safety, stressing that the message is clear: "in Huétor Vega, we will not tolerate any type of aggression." For his part, the mayor, Mario del Paso, stated that the festivals should be a space for fun and coexistence, ensuring that women can enjoy them without fear.
