Historically, Atarfe has been a socialist stronghold, both at the municipal and regional levels. However, the Andalusian elections of 2022 marked a turning point when the PP managed to win for the first time this century, securing over 2,700 votes compared to approximately 1,800 for the PSOE.
On that occasion, Vox emerged as the third most voted force in the locality, with around 1,340 votes, reflecting a trend observed in much of the province. This result contrasted significantly with the 2018 election, where the PSOE was the clear winner with 25.6% of the votes, closely followed by Ciudadanos with 22.3%.
Analyzing the various regional elections of this century, the PSOE had maintained a dominant position, with the question focused on who would take second place. In 2015, the party again led with 36.4% of the votes, followed by Podemos (20.6%) and the Popular Party (19%), while Ciudadanos was in fourth place with 11%.
The year 2012 was particularly favorable for the PSOE, which obtained a resounding 47.5% of the votes, leaving the PP in second place with 33.8% and Izquierda Unida in third with 13.2%. This pattern of socialist victory, albeit with varying percentages, remained constant until the PP's breakthrough in 2022.
