The Alhendín Secondary Education Institute (IES Alhendín) hosted a new activity of the Mentor 10 program, featuring the renowned Olympic gymnast Lourdes Mohedano, a leading figure in Spanish rhythmic gymnastics and the most decorated Andalusian athlete in the discipline. The event was attended by the territorial delegate for Culture, Historical Heritage, and Sport in Granada, Luis Recuerda Martínez, and the mayor of Alhendín, Jorge Rafael Sánchez, along with numerous students from the center and gymnasts from the local club.
This session was particularly significant as it marked the first Mentor 10 program event in the province of Granada for the current school year. The Junta de Andalucía continues this initiative to bring the example and experience of outstanding athletes closer to young Andalusians, fostering sports practice and the transmission of core values.
During her presentation, Lourdes Mohedano shared key moments from her sports career with the students, emphasizing effort, discipline, and personal overcoming. She highlighted the importance of values such as consistency, teamwork, commitment, and perseverance, as well as the benefits of sports for personal development and adopting healthy lifestyle habits.
The territorial delegate, Luis Recuerda Martínez, stated that this event initiates a new edition of the program, bringing young people into direct contact with the testimony of an exceptional athlete like Mohedano, whose career perfectly represents the values the Junta de Andalucía aims to convey. He added that Mentor 10 allows students to engage with role models who demonstrate that talent must always be accompanied by hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance, recognizing sport as a powerful educational and social tool for forming committed, healthy individuals prepared for life's challenges.
The mayor of Alhendín, Jorge Rafael Sánchez, expressed gratitude for the municipality being chosen to host this first activity of the year and held up Lourdes Mohedano as an example of effort, consistency, and excellence for the town's youth.
Following the meeting at the institute, the activity moved to the Municipal Sports Center of Alhendín, where Lourdes Mohedano led a practical master class, sharing technical knowledge and experiences gained throughout her career. The day concluded with a Q&A session, allowing attendees to learn firsthand about the challenges, sacrifices, and rewards of being a high-level athlete.
