The XXIX Lucena City Theatre Week kicked off this Wednesday with high attendance, over 93% of tickets sold and eight out of thirteen shows in this edition already at full capacity, as announced by the mayor of Lucena, Aurelio Fernández, and the Councillor for Culture, Francisco Barbancho.
The opening day features two events: at 6:30 PM in the Palacio Erisana, "El desván de los hermanos Grimm" (The Attic of the Grimm Brothers) will be presented, and at 8:30 PM in the Manuel Lara Cantizani Municipal Auditorium, the operatic adaptation "El barbero de Sevilla" (The Barber of Seville) by Córdoba Opera Lab. Tickets are still available for the former, as well as for "Los últimos cómicos" by Pata Teatro, and "Inolvidable", starring Carmen Morales and Alejandro Vera.
Among the notable names in the program are Carmen Conesa, Marcial Álvarez, and Alberto Vázquez in "Misery"; María Adánez and José Luis García-Pérez in "Panorama desde el puente" (View from the Bridge); and Goyo Jiménez with "América Forever". The lineup also includes "Lope Exprés", "Lunaria", "Compatibles", the magic gala "aLUCENAnte 2026", the contemporary circus show "Hypnos", and the urban dance performance "Famulus 4.0".
Coinciding with the start of the Theatre Week, Mayor Aurelio Fernández announced the tender for technical services to update the Municipal Auditorium expansion project. This procedure has a budget of 72,993 euros, with the deadline for submitting offers on October 20th.
The intervention plans to increase the current capacity, from about 400 seats, to approximately 700 spectators. This will be achieved through a gallery with around 180 seats and three boxes. It also includes adapting access and necessary services for the public in the new spaces. The tender covers the update of the execution project, site supervision, and health and safety coordination.
This project is part of the Integrated Action Plan (PAI) of Lucena, financed with European funds. The objective is to adapt the auditorium to the growing needs of cultural programming and the city's expansion.
