The exhibition, presented by the Councilor for Culture, Francisco Barbancho, and local artist Pepa Cano, aims to reclaim the role of pioneering women in flamenco history, such as singers, dancers, guitarists, and jaleadoras from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Pepa Cano, who resides and has her artistic space in Las Navas del Selpillar, uses fabrics, threads, everyday materials, and traditional costume fringes in her works. The exhibition is divided into two lines of work: ‘Lola, Lolita, Lola’, a project created with twelve women from the Asociación El Puntal using crochet, and the new series ‘Almas Flamencas’, focused on fringes as an artistic element to abstractly represent women linked to flamenco.
The exhibition also includes a special tribute to Paco de Lucena, with a piece inspired by an old flamenco performance from 1892 in which the Lucena master participated. The exhibition thus connects the vindication of historical flamenco female artists with the figure of Paco de Lucena, the festival's focal point.
Organized by the Department of Culture, the exhibition will be open until October 19th, from Monday to Saturdays and holidays from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sundays from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
