This initiative, promoted by the Northern Jaén Health Management Area of the Andalusian Health Service, has been conducted over two months on Friday mornings. The primary objective is to improve patients' autonomy in managing their condition, prevent the onset of complications, and enhance their overall well-being.
The program has involved a multidisciplinary team, including nursing and physiotherapy staff. The methodology employed is patient-centered, fostering dialogue and the exchange of experiences among attendees to facilitate the acquisition of practical knowledge applicable to daily life.
During the sessions, crucial topics such as a Mediterranean diet-based eating plan, the importance of physical exercise, blood glucose control, menu planning, foot care, and the prevention of both acute and chronic complications have been addressed.
The theoretical-practical approach has included activities designed for the immediate integration of knowledge, such as designing healthy diets, interpreting nutritional labels, and practicing physical exercise, thereby reinforcing the patient's active role in managing their condition.
Beyond the direct benefits for participants, the workshop positively impacts the public healthcare system by anticipating a reduction in complications, consultations, and hospitalizations associated with poor diabetes control, consolidating Primary Care as a cornerstone of health promotion.
