The Torre Vigía of Yunquera, an emblematic site in the Sierra de las Nieves, now features a new installation: ‘La Puerta’. This is a walkable bioconstructive sculpture over three meters high, promoted by the Málaga Provincial Council and La Noria, with the collaboration of the Yunquera City Council.
The work is the result of the training workshop ‘The Art of Traditional Bioconstruction in Sierra de las Nieves’, organized by the Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Hub of Sierra de las Nieves and managed by the cooperative Renovables Sierra de las Nieves. Nine participants, aged between 40 and 62, have employed ancestral artisanal techniques of dry stone, lime, and cork under the direction of expert master José Vera Fernández.
‘La Puerta’ represents the region's identity mark and traditional values, symbolizing both its natural wealth and the territory's dual recognition as a National Park and a Biosphere Reserve of Sierra de las Nieves.

Antonia Ledesma, Vice President of the Málaga Provincial Council, highlighted the collective effort and the commitment to the bioeconomy in the region, linked to the protection of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park. She noted that the Sierra de las Nieves is a unique territory, with its nine towns embracing the bioeconomy to generate green jobs and retain population.
In parallel, a technical screening of ‘La Puerta’, a fiction short film collectively co-produced in Yunquera, took place. The film's narrative revolves around the sculpture and was developed within the framework of the Transformative Eco-Communication School ‘Rural Voices for Climate Justice in Sierra de las Nieves’, linked to the EnRaiza project.
This audiovisual project, funded by the Andalusian Agency for International Development Cooperation (AACID), involved an amateur acting ensemble from various local associations and students from area high schools, under the direction of Cine de Plano, a production company specializing in community cinema.
Antonia Ledesma congratulated the participating team, announcing that the short film will be submitted to the 30th Málaga Film Festival. These initiatives, along with the recent inauguration of the Yunquera Forest Biomass Center, reinforce the Málaga Provincial Council's commitment to energy transition, environmental conservation, and territorial balance in the Sierra de las Nieves.
