The first major summer heatwave has arrived in Huelva, with temperatures expected to reach 35°C in the plains and the Andévalo region. For those seeking an alternative to the stifling heat and the coast, the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche stands out as the ideal destination for enjoying cool nights and a unique natural environment.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Aroche is positioned as the thermal oasis of the province. This weekend, its early mornings will register lows of up to 13°C, a significant difference compared to the high temperatures elsewhere in the province. Its altitude and topography contribute to this phenomenon.
Aroche offers not only a climatic respite but also a historical journey. Its cobbled streets lead to an imposing 11th-century Almoravid castle and the archaeological site of Arucci Turobriga, the province's only visitable Roman city. Despite the cool nights, weekend afternoons could reach 31°C, though they will be more bearable than in other areas.
The coolness route extends to neighboring municipalities such as Cortegana and Rosal de la Frontera, with lows of 14°C. Aracena, the cultural capital of the region, will maintain nights between 14°C and 16°C. The Gruta de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders), with its constant 16°C temperature, is another subterranean attraction.
The Huelva mountains invite complete disconnection, offering nature, tranquility, and the pleasure of needing a jacket in the middle of May. A perfect plan to enjoy the south with the comfort of the north.
