PSOE contrasts government's record investment in Dependency with long waits in Andalusia

Socialists denounce over 500 days of delay in the region while the central government announces an additional 6.2 billion euros for the system.

The PSOE of Huelva has defended the central government's historic investment in dependency care, criticizing delays in Andalusia and accusing the regional government of blocking the system.

The PSOE of Huelva on Wednesday defended what it considers the State's largest ever investment in dependency care, following the announcement by Government President Pedro Sánchez to allocate an additional 6.2 billion euros to the system between 2026 and 2027.
The Organization Secretary of the Huelva PSOE, Francisco Baluffo, welcomed a measure that, he stated, will directly impact thousands of families in the province needing support for the care of the elderly, dependent, or disabled.
As explained by the socialist leader, the new funding will strengthen social services and advance the protection of vulnerable individuals, while also facilitating greater coverage for those requiring daily assistance.
Baluffo indicated that 2.218 billion euros will be added to the system this year, reaching 4 billion in 2027. The objective, he added, is to consolidate a new financing framework allowing the State to cover 50% of dependency costs.
The socialist representative recalled that when Pedro Sánchez took office, state contributions to dependency care were 1.347 billion euros annually, a figure he described as a historic low following the years of the Popular Party's administration.
In this regard, he assured that prior to this new increase, the State was already contributing over 3.6 billion euros annually to the autonomous communities, a figure that nearly triples the state funding that existed during Mariano Rajoy's term.
Baluffo also held the current Andalusian president, Juan Manuel Moreno, responsible for the cuts made during previous governments, recalling his social responsibilities when funds for the Dependency Law were reduced.
He also highlighted that the new funding will increase the amounts autonomous communities receive per person with a recognized dependency level. Aid linked to different dependency levels will see significant increases in monthly contributions received by administrations.
Planned improvements include increased amounts for individuals with dependency level I and doubled resources for those with level II. For severely dependent individuals, amounts will also see a significant rise.
For the socialist leader, this decision demonstrates a political commitment to expanding rights and strengthening the welfare state, ensuring greater protection for those needing support due to age, disability, or dependency.
Furthermore, he argued that this budget increase will help reduce waiting lists, an issue he deems a priority as access to care is crucial for the quality of life of affected individuals.
The PSOE maintains that the new funding contrasts with the current situation in Andalusia, where they report thousands of citizens are still awaiting administrative resolution or a benefit despite having their right to public care recognized.
Baluffo stated that the autonomous community currently registers over 500 days of waiting to access the dependency system, placing it among the regions with the longest delays nationwide in processing these aids.
He also denounced that over 2,200 Andalusians died in the early months of this year while awaiting a benefit, a figure that, he recalled, exceeded 7,000 people throughout 2025.
In the province of Huelva, the socialist leader noted that 308 people died last year without receiving a legally entitled aid, and currently, over 2,540 residents of Huelva are on the waiting list.
The Organization Secretary of the PSOE of Huelva insisted that people apply for these aids because they genuinely need them and considered it unacceptable to wait over 500 days for an administrative response.
Therefore, he urged the Junta de Andalucía to manage the resources received from the State more effectively, arguing that extraordinary funding must translate into more professionals, more home care, and improved assistance services.
Baluffo concluded by assuring that the PSOE will demand that every euro allocated to dependency care results in reduced waiting lists and faster attention for families in Huelva and for all dependent individuals in Andalusia.
