Normal operations are progressively returning to Seville's railway lines after Adif reinstated the service. The breakdown, which halted traffic for hours, originated on Tuesday night in La Rinconada when a medium-voltage cable detached and fell onto Adif's overhead power lines. The exact causes of the incident are still under investigation.
The incident caused considerable damage to the electrical infrastructure and triggered a precautionary fire on the track, requiring the urgent intervention of firefighters. Adif was forced to temporarily suspend circulation between Sevilla-Santa Justa and Guadajoz, disrupting the High-Speed connection to Madrid, as well as Media Distancia and Cercanías services.
“"We are committed to resolving this situation and minimizing inconvenience to our passengers."
Technicians from Endesa and Adif worked intensively overnight to repair the infrastructure, a complex task due to the electrical risks involved. Traffic resumed in the morning after safety verifications. However, the backlog of stopped trains has led to cascading delays across all services. The first AVE to Madrid departed over an hour late, contributing to the chaos at Santa Justa station.
Renfe has communicated the situation through its official channels, offering alternative road transport for some routes and allowing ticket changes at no extra cost for affected passengers. The company has apologized for the inconvenience and advises passengers to check their train status before heading to the station.
