The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow warning for the Costa del Sol, Guadalhorce, Ronda, Antequera, and Axarquía. The alert will be in effect between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Highs of 39 degrees are expected in the Serranía de Ronda and the Antequera region, and 38 degrees on the western Costa del Sol, including the capital. In these areas, temperatures could locally reach 40 degrees. In Axarquía, mercury is expected to reach 37 degrees, particularly in its western part.
The municipalities expected to experience the highest temperatures are those in the interior of the Guadalhorce Valley, such as Álora, where temperatures could reach 41 degrees. Other towns like Cártama expect 40 degrees, a figure that will also be approached in Ardales, Coín, Almogía, El Burgo, Casarabonela, Tolox, Villanueva de la Concepción, Antequera, and La Viñuela. On the other hand, coastal municipalities like Torrox, Nerja, and Fuengirola will see lower highs, around 30 degrees.
This Monday, seven communities in the south and east of the peninsula are under orange or yellow alerts for high temperatures. Andalusia has a orange level in Córdoba, Granada, and Jaén, with highs up to 40 degrees. In Almería, Cádiz, Málaga, and Sevilla, the warning is yellow, with values between 37 and 39 degrees. Other regions such as Aragon, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Region of Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha, Community of Madrid, Navarre, and La Rioja are also activating heat warnings.
The orange alert implies a significant meteorological risk, while the yellow alert poses no risk to the general population, although it may affect specific activities. A new heatwave, expected to be more intense and longer-lasting, is anticipated to begin this Tuesday.
