The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Carmen of La Línea de la Concepción has dramatically altered the situation for the upcoming July 16th festival. Initially, the brotherhood announced the suspension of the maritime procession due to a lack of a boat, but a public appeal has led to a vessel being offered to transport the Patron Saint of Sailors.
Estefanía Gómez, Head Sister of the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of the Sea and Our Lady of Carmen, confirmed to this outlet that "everything is resolved." The required documentation has been formally submitted to the Maritime Authority for final permit processing, although the corporation is now involved in an administrative countdown.
“"We hope the deadlines are met and everything can proceed as tradition dictates."
Gómez expressed the neighborhood's desire for bureaucratic hurdles to be overcome, allowing the procession's fate to depend solely on sea conditions. She added, "Let it depend on the easterly wind picking up, not on us lacking the necessary infrastructure to carry out our procession, as happens in all coastal towns where the Virgen del Carmen is an invocation many devotees wish to see on the waters every July 16th."
Despite potential maritime uncertainty due to winds in the Strait, the fervor in the streets remains unwavering. The brotherhood's alternative plan ensures that religious services and the procession through the streets of La Atunara remain intact on the calendar. The governing board insists that the warmth of the people of La Línea will accompany the Virgen del Carmen along every meter of its terrestrial route, anticipating one of the most crowded and emotional homecomings remembered in the neighborhood.
