Brothers Alberto Baños and Gonzalo Baños, both licensed with the La Cañada Golf Club in Guadiaro, clinched the Andalusian doubles golf championship title. The competition, played over two rounds at Sherry Golf Jerez, concluded with a total of 127 strokes for the Algeciras duo.
The Baños brothers' victory was built on a remarkable comeback during the second round, played in the 'fourballs' (best ball) format. They achieved birdies on holes 2, 3, 5, 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18, with only one bogey recorded on the 11th hole.
After the first day, the pair consisting of José Antonio Vidal and José María Vidal (Montecastillo) led the standings with 60 strokes, two ahead of the future champions. They ultimately tied for second place with 131 strokes, sharing the runner-up position with Leonardo Jiménez Rybak (La Cañada) and Manuel Martín Álvarez (La Envía de Almería).
“"This regional doubles title caps off an exceptional June for Gonzalo Baños, who also recently won the 2026 Spanish Absolute Golf Championship."
Other representatives from Campo de Gibraltar achieved notable positions: Martín Cervera (RCG Sotogrande) and Ignacio Bernaldo (Puerta de Hierro) finished sixth; Álvaro Trujillano (La Cañada) and Aitor Macías (Guadalmina) were eighth; Rafael Guerrero (RCG Sotogrande) and Antonio Pérez (La Monacilla de Huelva) concluded twelfth; and Cristóbal Varo (La Cañada) and Hugo Padilla (Almerimar El Ejido) finished twenty-fourth.
In the women's competition, the victory went to Violeta Fernández-Tagle (Vistahermosa) and Sofía Pérez Escarcena (Paraíso Golf).
This Friday, the individual Andalusian Championship will commence at the same venue, featuring a large representation from the region.
