Organized by Cultura con Orgullo, the design studio El Golpe, and the production company Serendipia Global, the event reaffirms its commitment to a free, critical, and diverse culture. This edition is supported by the Seville City Council and the SGAE Foundation, in addition to the collaboration of various institutions and entities.
“"Today more than ever, creating and sustaining culture is an act of collective defense, memory, and dignity."
This year's program focuses on memory, dissident bodies, identity, censorship, desire, and new ways of narrating LGTBIQ+ experiences, encompassing theater, audiovisuals, performance, music, and contemporary thought.
The scenic inauguration will take place on May 19 at the Teatro del Hogar Virgen de los Reyes with the play Poeta perdido en Nueva York, by El Aedo Teatro. This proposal revisits the poetic universe of Federico García Lorca, exploring his emotional and artistic journey in New York and his process of accepting his sexuality.
In the audiovisual section, the Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo will screen Maspalomas, by Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga. The film narrates the forced return of a 76-year-old gay man to San Sebastián, where he must confront his past and reconcile with his identity.
Among the parallel activities, the exhibition Esta imagen incumple con las normas comunitarias sobre desnudos o actividad sexual stands out, which can be visited from May 14 to 31 at El Búnker. The exhibition reflects on algorithmic censorship and the digital control of queer bodies.
“"El FOC was born as a dream and ten years later it is still possible thanks to a network of affections, complicities, and cultural spaces that understood from the beginning that culture is also resistance."
Performing arts will also take center stage with works such as Memorias de la Luna Grande at La Fundición, which imagines an encounter between Chavela Vargas and Federico García Lorca. The Teatro TNT will present Historia de una amapola que escapó de entre los trigos and Manual para follarse a un macho con vagina, the latter using humor to dismantle prejudices about trans identities.
The festival will conclude part of its scenic program with X, a piece of autofiction and resistance that addresses violence and hatred towards the LGTBIQ+ community, which can be seen at the Centro TNT on Saturday, May 30.
