The Jerez council has announced the investment to revitalize the Astoria cinema, a property located in the heart of the historic center that has been disused for years. The project, funded by the PAI-Edil Plan, aims to recover this 1,372 square meter space for public use.
The works will focus on improving and expanding the existing dressing rooms and restrooms, adapting them for a maximum planned capacity of 1,712 people. Adjacent areas such as an office and storage room will be utilized to optimize the space. The construction of a new storage area for removable infrastructure and the installation of basic plumbing and electrical services, which could enable a service bar for events, are also planned.
The project also includes repairs to the underground parking lot beneath the plaza, which has 36 spaces for residents. The goal is for the old Astoria cinema, which already has a stage, dressing rooms, and adapted restrooms, to host various cultural and recreational activities once the works are completed.
The recovery of this property will allow it to be used for public purposes after years of neglect.
The reopening of the Astoria cinema is part of the municipal actions for the revitalization of the historic center, providing the area with a venue adaptable to different event formats. This initiative joins other projects funded by European funds within the PAI-Edil Plan.
